Steve Kinsey is the owner and instructor at Pistol Performance Concepts (PPC). His instructional focus is on the discipline of semi-automatic pistol craft, of a concealed and defensive nature. He is a retired Senior Federal Air Marshal (FAM), who has served within the U.S. government for over thirty years in various military and law enforcement roles.
Steve began his employment with the FAM Service in the wake of September 11th, 2001 where he was assigned to New York City, Newark, and Detroit field offices. In these assignments he provided mission operational aviation counter-terrorism duties, amassing 3.7 million miles flown in an effort to counter emerging threats to civil aviation around the globe.
Steve has served as a Lead Firearms Instructor and Training Coordinator at both the Federal Air Marshal Service's national training center and at the regional field office level. He routinely provided firearms and tactics instruction to basic, advanced, and international military and law enforcement students. These instructional programs were performed at length and in-depth, incorporating static, fluid, and dynamic levels of instruction. These programs were routinely delivered to groups with diverse backgrounds, having varying degrees of experiences. Ultimately these programs were designed and delivered with the goal to maximize individual performance skills development and improvement.
Steve also has extensive experience in firearms and tactics curriculum development and delivery. These instructor level certification programs were accredited through FLETA and were used to certify others as nationally recognized Federal Law Enforcement Firearms and Tactics Instructors.
During his government career, Steve has served as both a military and civilian Police Officer and SWAT Team Member, while employed by the U.S. Army and the U.S. Park Police. His deployments include high threat operations within Mogadishu, Somalia 1993 and Sarajevo, Bosnia 1997. Steve routinely provided protective service operations for both U.S. and NATO command elements, throughout the European theater of operations.
Steve is a certified firearms instructor, defensive tactics instructor, active shooter response instructor, patrol rifle instructor, and NLTA force-on-force instructor, through the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC). He is also a certified aircraft tactics/mission training instructor and legal investigative instructor through the FAM Service. Steve is a graduate of the FBI basic Special Weapons and Tactics Course (SWAT) New York Field Office.
Steve holds many NRA civilian instructor ratings and certifications, including the designation as an advanced pistol instructor (API). Lastly, he is a certified concealed pistol license instructor through the Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners (MCRGO).
